The United States, Israel and Iran

Posted in Foreign Policy, Politics with tags , , , , , on September 13, 2012 by authorcarloscardoso

The president decided that he will not as requested meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later this month here in Washington or in New York at the United Nations at the General Assembly meetings. This after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proclaimed there are no deadlines for Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency claimed Iran is getting closer to a weapon. Reporting that they are working on computer modeling the destructive power of an atomic warhead, clearly indicating that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons technology. Iran threatens to wipe Israel off the map and to attack both American troops in the region and America itself. The Israeli Prime Minister says ‘The world tells Israel, ‘Wait. There’s still time and I say: ‘Wait for what? Wait until when?’ Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.’’ When Israel is threatened with complete annihilation, the United States has a moral responsibility to ensure that the Jewish people are defended and protected.

The United States and the people of the world vowed that after the holocaust, we would never allow it to happen again. Yet when Israel is threatened more than ever, the administration snubs Israel and the Prime Minister leaving them isolated and left to deal with the Iranian threat alone without American support. This behavior is unconscionable and all Americans must contact our elected officials in the House, Senate and President Obama to support a bipartisan effort to voice our unequivocal support for Israel pressuring the White House to commit to eliminating the Iranian’s from acquiring a nuclear weapon or the technological ability to create them.

The Democratic Platform originally did not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel until the media publicized it. The floor vote on the convention floor was supposed to pass with a two thirds majority and after three voice votes the chairman said the ayes had it drawing a chorus of boos by the delegates. This display showed the Democratic Party and administration does not support Israel, the omission was intentional and only changed for political expediency and not conviction. This continues a trend by this administration of bringing our historical traditions and policies to an abrupt end while openly disrespecting Israel’s leaders and failing to support the nation of Israel. This administration would allow the destruction of Israel and the mass murder of the Jewish people, abandoning one of our staunchest allies. We need a change of leadership that will stand with Israel and make it clear to our friends and foes alike that we will honor our commitments to our allies and those who would oppose us should do so at their own peril. Respect on the world stage requires leadership and peace through strength with the use of force when necessary to protect our friends, interests and fight the spread of evil by all means necessary.

The Relationship Between the United States and Israel

The position of the United States has historically been one of complete support for the Jewish State of Israel. This has been the case since the recognition of Israel and has remained true throughout the years. The relationship however has been markedly different over the past almost four years. The signs have been unmistakable as a valued ally has been treated with a total lack of respect. French President Sarkozy called Prime Minister Netanyahu a liar, President Obama caught unguarded on a live microphone responded, “at least you don’t have to listen to him everyday”. Longstanding U.S. policy abandoned with the endorsement of the position held by the Palestinians, stating that the peace negotiations should begin with Israel returning to the pre 1967 war borders without any concessions on the part of the Palestinians. The lands won were from Egypt, Jordan and Syria, not Palestine. This places Israel in a position of giving up strategic land won, leaving the Israeli borders indefensible. Prime Minister Netanyahu was then snubbed for dinner and yet responded with a tremendous speech to a joint session of Congress highlighting our common values, unshakeable historical alliance and common interests.

Provocative actions by Iran were responded to by cancelling planned joint military exercises with U.S. and Israeli defense forces hardly a show of strength and support. Iran has been allowed to pursue a nuclear weapon without the U.S. preparing a military response leaving Israel to prepare to act alone at a time when the Middle East has never been a more dangerous place. Administration sources leaked an Israeli plan in April to attack Iran from airbases in Azerbaijan effectively destroying the element of surprise, forcing the cancellation of the airstrikes to destroy the Iranian nuclear program. They leaked sensitive national security secrets to the press publicly acknowledging that the U.S and Israel had created and deployed the Stuxnet virus that sabotaged the Iranian nuclear program. These were covert acts of war that should never have been revealed, costing us the ability to continue this path of slowing Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon. Funds were withheld and $70 million was just recently released to assist Israel with its Iron Dome missile defense system both done in an election year with obvious political motives.

Clearly the level of support enjoyed by Israel over the years is not what it once was. It is a sad day when the Prime Minister of Israel concludes that the current American leadership will never attack Iran. America and Israel must stand firm together, against all threats. Leadership that unequivocally supports Israel must be put back into place here in America. The relationship between the United States and Israel must be repaired, as Israel finds itself increasingly surrounded by groups who openly advocate their destruction. America has a moral obligation to ensure that history is not repeated and the Jewish people may continue to live in peace and security. Israel must know that America stands with you. When dependable diplomatic and military support once counted on is in question, confidence must be restored immediately as the stakes have never been higher.

Tea Party Blamed For Debt Deal Debacle

The article begins with a baseless and offensive attack against conservative Americans in its title, “Tea party has engaged in economic terrorism”. The truth is that the Obama administration and the super majority in both houses of congress gave the Democrats the ability for 2 years to raise the debt ceiling to whatever level they wanted to finance all their spending plans and failed to do so. The President offered no vision, plan or any sense of urgency on resolving the issue until the Treasury Department declared the country would default on its obligations to pay our debts unless the debt ceiling was raised by August 2, 2011. This statement was misleading and began to cause concerns in the markets. They should have assured the world that the US would not default on any loan payments. The federal government could have begun looking at non-essential government workers and beginning to implement a furlough program to extend the government’s ability to pay for all essential services. The federal government didn’t do what all local, county and state governments did when faced with that dilemma, cut government spending. No they proposed allowing them to spend more. They needed to find unnecessary bureaucracy and cut the size of the federal government. The Tea Party wasn’t the irresponsible group in this fiasco, no it was the Democrats who refused to consider significant spending cuts when they knew this path of spiraling debt is unsustainable especially in this weak economy. The author who is nationally syndicated could have debated her points without resorting to calling those who disagree with her, “economic terrorists and equating their actions with that of Al-Qaida. Then she went on to call them” ignoramuses” again degrading and slandering her opponents because she cannot win in an honest and open debate on the issues without resorting to name calling. The Tea party which is an ideal shared by many American citizens who understand that we must fix our economic situation if we are to regain our place as the leader of the free world.

This country is at a crossroads and the choice has never been clearer, do we want a government that believes that taxing, spending and borrowing, leading to unfathomable amounts of debt is the proper course for our nation to take? Debt that our generation will not be able to pay to leave to our children and grandchildren to pay is unconscionable. Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Then I say the earth belongs to each of these generations during it’s course, fully, and in their own right. The 2d. generation receives it clear of the debts and incumbrances of the 1st., the 3d. of the 2d. and so on.”Or do we want a limited government that can live within its means. The Wall Street crash and downgrading of our nation’s credit rating prove the debt must be addressed now. How sad is it for our country to have to listen to Vladimir Putin of Russia call the United States a parasite on the world because we can’t live within our means. China has said the good old days of borrowing are over.

The stock market has been plummeting since the debt ceiling debate showed that this administration had no intention of significantly cutting spending any more than they had to. They also showed their hypocrisy when they continued to talk about revenues, meaning tax hikes after they agreed to the idea that the economy was too weak in the lame duck session of congress to raise taxes and they agreed to extending the Bush tax cuts until 2012. This President has the ignominious honor of being the first President to lose the country’s triple A credit rating and having more people receiving government assistance than ever before in history. All while unemployment remains above what he said it would in spite of the stimulus package that needed to be passed immediately to avert a possible depression. Now with our credit in question, our economy in shambles, unemployment and foreclosures up and the housing market severely weak, here come rising interest rates and further devaluation of the dollar to further weaken our economy. The President needs to take responsibility for the economy and his role over the last two years through the effects of his policies. He also needs to use his influence to end the toxic atmosphere in politics by calling for an end to the bashing of his opponents and toning down this incendiary rhetoric.

2010 Victory

The elections of 2010 showed the power of the people to enact change at the ballot box. Winning an important battle but the war is far from over. Highly funded opposition to constitutional government is poised to take the fight to us. We must overcome this radical challenge for the  heart and soul of our nation. We must remain vigilant and continue to organize to take our country back to her roots. The concept of State and individual sovereignty must be reinforced. The future of the republic was never meant to be controlled by the judiciary branch interpreting the constitution and its limits on federal government power.  The individual states have the power to supercede or nullify federal law. They also have the right of seccesion as shown by the actions and the precedents established by our Founding Fathers.
