The Truth About Medicare

There have been many political ads trying to scare America’s seniors into believing that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan wish to end Medicare and break our commitment to our seniors, nothing could be further from the truth. Quite to the contrary, they are the only candidates who have promised to keep Medicare benefits for all Americans 55 or older. Beginning with keeping the $716 billion dollars being taken out by Obamacare to help fund it, believing our seniors deserve what they paid into and worked for their whole lives, and were promised. Obama made no effort to strengthen the program in his first term, ignoring Medicare completely, knowingly allowing it to head towards bankruptcy making it unavailable to future generations.

Obama’s plan allows Medicare to go bankrupt in 2024 without offering a solution. It takes over $716 billion from the program for Obamacare and then empowers 15 bureaucrats to make further cuts who are unelected and unaccountable to congressional overview. The Romney approach differs greatly from Obama’s; together with Paul Ryan they have bipartisan support for keeping benefits intact for anyone 55 or older. They also want to ensure that the promises made to all other Americans are sustainable and will be there when they need it. Obama‘s trying to scare you because as he said himself as a candidate in 2008, when you have no new ideas to offer, no record to run on, you resort to trying to use scare tactics against your opponent.

The truth is there’s been a lack of leadership, four years and nothing to brag about but the passage of Obamacare, a hugely unpopular law adding one trillion dollars in taxes on top of the theft of over $700 billion from Medicare to pay for it. We were told it was not a tax yet it is actually the largest tax increase in American history The Romney, Ryan plan is to keep that money in Medicare where it belongs and work from day one towards enacting the full repeal of Obamacare. This alone eliminates a trillion dollar tax increase, while undoing another entitlement program that we ultimately can’t afford. The president promised he would cut the deficit in half in his first term, another broken campaign promise, instead he added $5 trillion in additional debt, all in just four years. Spending without budgeting restraint, helped by the fact that ally Senator Harry Reid has not allowed a vote on a budget on the Senate floor since 2009.

The choice on Medicare is simple, you have Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan vowing to keep our promises to all Americans 55 or older while working on a bipartisan plan to ensure we can offer future generations a Medicare program they can rely on. The other choice is Obamacare and its decimation of Medicare by stealing over $716 billion, straddling us with debt, building an entitlement program with a trillion dollar tax increase on top of the $5 trillion dollars he has added to the deficit. Unfortunately Obama’s distorting the Romney plan, because after four years he has no plan, no vision and no record. No path towards saving Medicare while speeding up its destruction so he must resort to scare tactics.

Contact President Obama and Demand Leadership on the Debt Ceiling Debate

Posted in Politics with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 30, 2011 by authorcarloscardoso

President Obama used the bully pulpit to call out to his supporters to call and email the Republicans to presssure them for their role in this crisis. Unfortunately this is a word this administration has used often but their responses or lack thereof depends on what fits their agenda. I would urge any American who has come to terms with the idea that our curent form of government has grown unsustainable to call the White House and demand leadership not the partisanship and divisiveness that this President has worsened. The contact information can be found at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact. Below is an example you could view and use if you agree. It is time to hold the President accountable for his actions and or lack thereof.

President Obama,

With all due respect to your office, I find your comments from your press conferences on the debt ceiling debate to be more about political posturing than actual leadership. This crisis is just another example of a trend we’ve seen under your administration. You let things simmer failing to act little less lead, until positions harden then announce the need to get it done quickly. You wait until the last possible moment and declare an emergency. Then out you come portraying the role of the statesman who gets congress to work together. You excel at playing the blame game instead of leading. You were in charge of an undivided government for 2 years and didn’t feel the need to sufficiently address this issue at all, why? You weren’t willing to pay the political price to own this issue with your fellow Democrats. Now you have your scapegoat, someone to blame for your own ineptitude, those intransient Republicans. You ran for the office you hold to lead. Forget about your political future when considering making the hard choices. Follow your oath and do what is right to lead this nation back to prosperity. Present the American people with your plan, detailing your positions and how you intend to achieve them.

You speak of a balanced approach with spending cuts and additional revenue to not chance harming the economy. However it is your policies which have accelerated and even helped to create the mess we are in. The American economy needs jobs; this can only be accomplished by creating an atmosphere where our free market, capitalist system is encouraged to invest in America and her bright future. I’m sure you also realize that spending cuts alone will not solve our problem. The trade deficit incurred by our country for energy is also a threat to our long term fiscal strength. The obvious answer is to expand our efforts for domestic production, refining and use of our natural resources to lower both energy prices and unemployment. Increased workers being hired across the country will lead to increased revenues for the government and improve America’s long term financial health.

We owe it to our children to leave them with a clean slate and a fresh start to pursue their dreams. The deficit must be addressed and our debt paid down. Failure to do so is immoral and will define the lack of leadership on your part and your legacy. Stop trying to scare people into acting hastily in a manner they may later regret. Plan, prepare and react in a timely manner to issues that arise so the American people can watch the actions of our elected officials. You promised transparency and yet all we see is legislation being passed without lawmakers even having the opportunity to review it. Yet you promised us the American people would have access to critical legislation through the internet far enough in advance for us to review it and to allow our thoughts to be heard. This is one of many broken promises made by you on the campaign trail. You seem to lack substance when it comes to governing. Campaigning and governing are separate and distinct functions. You have yet to show much of an appetite for the latter. Stop trying to act like a leader and actually be one.

You asked the American people to contact their elected officials and share their views hoping to pressure your opponents to give in to your demands. I pray this is just one of many voters holding you personally accountable for this mess and contacting you. This is your mess, no more passing the buck or the blame. Time for you to stand up and fix things now before it’s too late. You wanted the job now get out there and do it right, be the leader you aspired to be and millions thought you capable to be. This is a historic moment and history will judge you by your actions and or inactions at this time of great uncertainty. Present us with a plan with specifics. Do your job and lead.

Respectfully.
