The American Experiment, Its Founding Ideals And Why We Must Come Together

The American Experiment brought about by our Founding Fathers has been the greatest leap forward that Humanity has ever seen. Before the American War of Independence most of the inhabitants of this world had never known what true freedom was. Most of humanity lived as slaves or subjects to a system of government that denied individuals their inalienable rights to Liberty. This free will was stifled and trampled by monarchs, dictators and other forms of totalitarian power where the head of state could decide the fate of anyone throughout most of human history. Liberty was our Creator’s greatest gift to Humanity in the form of free will, the essence of Liberty. The American Experiment set Humanity free when in a loud voice our Founders declared to the world that no man had the right to decide our fate or even the path we chose to pursue in seeking to become what we chose to be as free men in Liberty.

The idea of self government, that we as Sovereign Individuals with the inalienable rights given us by our Creator were free to pursue Liberty and choose our own path and our own destiny without government interference was a new way of thinking. This radical idea brought about the greatest growth in Human innovation changing the world to where we went from horses and primitive tools to the Industrial Revolution leading to technology unimaginably powerful in the course of just over 200 years. From cars to space travel to instantaneous communication all around the world all possible because the Human Spirit broken free from its shackles thrived in Liberty to make all this innovation possible, improving the living conditions of billions across the globe.

So the question we must ask ourselves is how Humanity could toil for over 5,000 years with little to show in the way of real progress, yet with the birth of a tiny republic founded in Liberty not only was that republic blessed with prosperity and progress but the whole world was transformed with it. The answer is simple, that the fragile state of Human existence known as Liberty set free the power of entrepreneurship, innovation and imagination. Liberty and limited government allowed American Exceptionalism to thrive and not only shape but save the world from the forces of tyranny during World War Two. To those who would take exception to the phrase American Exceptionalism, you need to remember that America has been the land of opportunity for immigrants from around the world who came here yearning to be free and become Americans. This they did in the hopes of building a better life for themselves and their families embracing the ideals of our Founders that Liberty and limited government was the path to prosperity.

George Washington believed that our Republican form of government would be the envy of the world and would be emulated. Although even now there are people throughout the world living in slavery. Others suffer in countries such as North Korea and Cuba who yearn for Freedom, who do not live but barely survive under the shackles of Communism and oppression. History shows that there will always be people who will try to control people and enslave them for their own selfish designs.

This holds true today as our Liberties are under attack by our own government Together with a population who haven’t been taught or don’t understand the fundamental difference between freedom and Liberty and how our government was supposed to work. That the power came from the people and government was to be limited to provide maximum Liberty throughout the land. Our people, who have been divided and pitted against each other in every way imaginable by the very president who promised to bring Americans together. They divide us by race, they divide us by our economic condition, missing the point that when it came down to it we are all Americans and the divisions are superficial and artificial. America’s strength has always been our unity and courage in the face of danger. Lincoln said that no outside forces could ever destroy us that the real danger was from an enemy within. This enemy exists today Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” Our generation is facing that challenge and the enemy is more powerful than any we have faced thus far.

If we are to pass this test and save Liberty so that it does not perish from the face of the Earth, we must find our common heritage. We must remember our proud history and how together there has never been a challenge America could not overcome. We must again look to Divine Providence to help our cause and save us from the evil spread of tyranny that threatens to engulf us. Remember your birthrights as Americans to Liberty and independence built on responsibility, self reliance and the spirit of charity which has always been a part of our American character. If we can do this, come together, reject those who would try to divide us and learn or remember our Founding Ideals, We the People can take our proud Republic back to the greatness we have built and be the Shining city on the hill. We can once again be the bright beacon of Liberty in an increasingly dark world that needs us now more than ever. United we can beat back the forces of tyranny outside and inside of our country who seek to show that the American Experiment was a failure. We can show that man does possess the ability to govern himself and the Liberty that our Creator endowed us with is more powerful than anything or anyone aligned against us. That the Creator’s will is for Mankind to be free and enjoy the fruits of his labors with Liberty and justice for all and that the American Experiment is noble, strong and meant to succeed.

The President and the Failure of the Super Committee

The failure of the Super Committee to come to a deficit reduction deal goes back to the debt ceiling deal. The extension of the Bush tax cuts through 2012 agreed to because of the fragility of the economy certainly still holds true today. The economy is so bad Mr. Obama is running away from it by blaming it on the Republicans protecting the wealthiest 2% of Americans. Interesting how he along with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi quickly embraced the movement that espoused their position on raising taxes, the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Interestingly enough while they demonized the true grassroots movement, the Tea Party. specifically Congresswoman Pelosi had expressed concern about their rhetoric leading to violence. Neither backed away from the Occupy Wall Street movement which Americans watched on their network news turn to lawlessness and violence. The Republicans offered some tax increases trying to reach a compromise but the Democrats wanted a trillion dollars in tax increases out of $1.2 Trillion they were required to cut from the deficit. This poisoned the atmosphere while the Committee was working.

The truth is the failure in Washington can be traced directly to our President who has done nothing but waste trillions of dollars on ventures for those who financed his campaign, while blaming Republicans as he has been the campaigner in chief. The President has done more to polarize this nation than any other president in our history to setup the backdrop of his own re-election campaign. He will run against obstructionist Republicans who have passed over a dozen bills only to be blocked from reaching the Senate floor for a vote. President Obama and his big government Democratic allies are willing to allow innocent Americans to suffer so he can run away from his record. This is not only a failure of leadership but a deliberate effort to allow this President to escape all accountability for his myriad of failures. President Obama is fiddling while the country burns around him. This while he actively is creating an atmosphere of class warfare knowing that his policies are destroying the economy creating more people dependant on the government for aid in the hope that they will vote Democratic.

The Gang of Six Deficit Reduction Plan

The proposal put forth by the Senate group of six including, Democratic Senators; Dick Durbin from Illinois, Mark Warner from Virginia and Kent Conrad from North Dakota as well as Republican Senators; Tom Coburn from Oklahoma, Saxby Chambliss from Georgia and Mike Crapo from Idaho must be opposed. This plan is a recipe for disaster and doesn’t do enough to address our immediate need to enact serious spending cuts. It is time we consider ending deficit budgets with budgets that not only don’t add to our debt but begins to pay down what we owe. $500 billion in cuts does not come close to accomplishing that.

The only true path to getting our fiscal house in order is to cut government spending and also looking to removing regulatory obstacles to job creation. Additional revenue in these circumstances can only come from private sector investments in American jobs. Our fiscal house will never be in order when we can’t afford our government, have continued high unemployment, a still damaging housing crisis and a trade deficit. We must rebuild our economy and declare energy independence from foreign sources. Explore and use our latest technology and huge natural resource reserves to lead us back to prosperity. We must end the reckless policies of the Federal Reserve and restore the integrity of our dollar. Only these concrete steps will lead us back to our position of preeminence in the world and ensure that we can regain the future for our children and their children. We must fix what we can and recapture the imagination of the world. The beacon of freedom and liberty must shine brightly as the darkness of evil spreads across the world. We are once again called to action and true leadership to ensure our vision and values of freedom and liberty is spread throughout the world.

President Obama and the Debt Ceiling Debate

President Obama has exhibited his now familiar style of leadership, brinkmanship, painting his opponents negatively and political posturing as he continuously acts like a candidate not a real leader. This is Mr. Obama’s way, he votes present, takes no stand and certainly does not lead through actions. He puts things off until there is no time for debate and then last minute deals are struck behind closed doors. He takes the high ground by basically doing nothing and then putting the blame on his opponents for fighting his well-meaning policies. It is a tactic of blame, posture, campaign instead of govern. His recent press conference is filled with examples of his tactics and lack of a politically viable solution available to him to the huge difficulty we find ourselves in.

First he begins by saying,”All the congressional leaders have reiterated the desire to make sure that the United States does not default on our obligations, and that the full faith and credit of the United States is preserved. That is a good thing. I think we should not even be this close to a deadline on this issue; this should have been taken care of earlier. But it is encouraging that everybody believes that this is something that has to be addressed.” Whose fault is it that we are here now? The Democrats had control of both houses of the congress with veto proof majorities and the presidency from Jan 2009 until Jan 2011 and did nothing on this issue or even pass a budget. So he tries to blame the Republicans for being obstructionist for our current dilemna which is mendacious. This situation has gotten here because of his policies of accelerating our deficit spending and also by his lack of policies to deal with America’s current problems.

He goes on to say,”And for the general public — I’ve said this before but I just want to reiterate — this is not some abstract issue. These are obligations that the United States has taken on in the past. Congress has run up the credit card, and we now have an obligation to pay our bills. If we do not, it could have a whole set of adverse consequences. We could end up with a situation, for example, where interest rates rise for everybody all throughout the country, effectively a tax increase on everybody, because suddenly whether you’re using your credit or you’re trying to get a loan for a car or a student loan, businesses that are trying to make payroll, all of them could end up being impacted as a consequence of a default.” Well his first public comments were directed at senior citizens trying to scare them about their social security checks. Knowing full well the concern this would raise was fear mongering. Now he says everyone would be hurt, sounds like more of the same on a larger scale. I still see no leadership in the form of a specific plan on his willingness to compromise just another measure to frighten the American people who may not be fully informed on the facts in this case.

Then he says, “Now, what is important is that even as we raise the debt ceiling, we also solve the problem of underlying debt and deficits. I’m glad that congressional leaders don’t want to default, but I think the American people expect more than that. They expect that we actually try to solve this problem, we get our fiscal house in order.” This from a man who proposed a 2011 budget with a projected $1.3 trillion deficit so outrageous he couldn’t even get it through the lame duck session of congress. Now he tries to lay claim to the moral highground of bringing back fiscal responsibility. His actions again bring into question his sincerity on this claim.

He goes on to say, “Now, what that would require would be some shared sacrifice and a balanced approach that says we’re going to make significant cuts in domestic spending. And I have already said I am willing to take down domestic spending to the lowest percentage of our overall economy since Dwight Eisenhower.
It also requires cuts in defense spending, and I’ve said that in addition to the $400 billion that we’ve already cut from defense spending, we’re willing to look for hundreds of billions more.
It would require us taking on health care spending. And that includes looking at Medicare and finding ways that we can stabilize the system so that it is available not just for this generation but for future generations.” How we get there not a clue but defense spending we can look at additional cuts. This while he unconstitutionally involves us in a civil war in Libya. Only the Congress has the power to declare war and the President has ignored all calls to explain to Congress and the American people why we are there, what our objectives are, our national interest in this affair, what the risks and cost are. Ending this mission now would certainly save us some money. He also mentioned bringing the budget down to 1960 level under Dwight D. Eisenhower which is ludicrous. The budget was $92,191,000,000 17.8% of GDP with a surplus, he proposed a budget of $3,800,000,000,000 and a $1.3 trillion dollar annual deficit. Sounds great, again where’s the plan?

His next statement is incredulous given that he said that the Bush tax cuts just a few short months ago had to be extended because of the fragility of the economy and the high unemployment across the nation. Nothing has changed to suggest our economy is on the mend when we are told we are on the verge of financial collapse. He said, “And it would require revenues.” That means tax hikes which again is the wrong approach in this economic climate. Revenues can be raised by revewing regulations that inhibits use of our nation’s abundantly blessed energy reserves and new technologies. Unleashing American companies to invest, create needed infrastructure to build energy independance with American jobs would lead the American economy to prosperity, freedom and liberty.

The Debt Ceiling Debate

This is the single most important debate on whether or not the American Republic as we know it will survive. The President has the nerve to blame the Republicans for this impending disaster. The budget should have been completed in the past congress when the Democrats had control of both houses and the presidency yet did not complete their constitutional responsibility to do so. President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Reid and former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi should explain to the American people why this vital responsibility was left uncompleted until after the midterm elections and the lame duck session. Was this a calculated political move with an eye towards the upcoming election of 2012, let them explain it instead of playing the blame game which is a farce.

Our government is bloated and has become even more so during the Obama administration’s time in power. The government needs to be shrunk to where it doesn’t cost us a penny borrowed to pay for a responsible government. The Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke also entered into the fray with his attacks on Republicans as well. His comments are incredulous given the facts. He accused the Republicans of possibly damaging the dollar when his own policies of printing money and inflating the money supply has done more intentional damage to the value of our currency and our way of life than any other person in history. An investigation into the activities of the Federal Reserve is needed urgently and anyone found guilty of improper conduct should be held legally accountable.

The final slap to the American people by this administration, is their argument that they need additional revenues to go with spending cuts. This from an administration which if it had our best interests at heart could increase revenue, improve our security and save our economy by opening up American natural resources to American companies. Freeing them to hire American workers to tap into our vast reserves of oil, natural gas and coal that could transform us back to prosperity. American energy independance is vital to our future prosperity and the only way to get ourselves out of this massive hole we have dug for ourselves. This is an unbelievable pool of resources left untouched to what purpose and why? Our government needs to allow for the private sector to create jobs by getting out of the way and let capitalism do what it does best, innovate and create. To me, I believe $14.3 Trillion in debt needs to be paid down not added to. We owe it to our future children, grandchildren and citizens of future generations to inherit this world free of debt. It is our moral duty, it is time to make the correct but difficult choices that must be made. Republicans must hold fast and it is up to Speaker Boehner to lead in the absence of real leadership from the president and the senate.

Time To Stand Together

The elections of 2010 represent a watershed moment in history that could not only decide the fate of this great country of ours, but the future of Western Civilization, the direction of the free world, and our position of preeminence in the world.

Now as we see the direction our country is headed it is time for us to stand up together, make our voices heard and take our country back to the roots that have made this country great. May history find us worthy and say that this generation of Americans faced our challenges with faith, courage and determination and once again prevailed against those who would threaten us, our way of life and our republican system of government. We cannot sit idly by as the stakes have never been higher.

Should we fail, we will be judged harshly by history and rightly so.
