The United States, Iran and The Obama Administration

The government of Iran has for years lied and tried to advance not only their nuclear ambitions but regional and world power goals. Iran has been supplying both Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip in constant terrorist attacks against Israel who it has threatened to wipe off of the map. Iran has been implicated in training and supplying materials to kill Americans in both Afghanistan and Iraq a provocation which our government has publicly condemned yet did nothing to combat these acts of war. Former FBI agent, Robert Levinson was abducted in March of 2007 and recent statements by our State Department indicate he was being held in an undisclosed Iranian prison. Unaccounted for almost 5 years now apparently detained by Iran with no action on his release or statement by the Iranian regime on his whereabouts or reason for his imprisonment. Then the US government exposes a plot by Iran with Mexican drug cartels to murder the Saudi Embassador to the UN in New York and again this administration did nothing. The administration was silent when the Iranian people rose up against Ahmadinejad’s election but supported the ouster of US ally Hosni Mubarak who kept the peace with Israel for 30 years. Generally supported the so called Arab Spring calling it the rise and spread of democracy which isn’t an American value. He even went so far as to support Libyan rebels and ensnare the US military in an unconstitutional war without seeking the required congressional consent. Democracy is a part of our republican society with the values of tolerance, liberty and freedom without which democracy can lead to tryanny as it did in Iran when the Ayatollah Khomeni came in and enslaved his people.

Recently the Iranians came in possesion of a U.S. RQA-170 drone with stealth capability that they claim they were able to take control of and capture. The Administration’s response was to ask for it back to no avail. Giving the Iranians an intelligience prize they claim to be using to retro engineer to learn its secrets. They have threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz where 60% of the world’s oil supply travels through. This closure would destroy an already fragile world economy by raising the price of a barrel of oil dramatically. They objected to the presence of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis in the Persian Gulf supporting the US 5th Fleet right before the 10 day Iranian naval excercise. Then the Iranians fired a medium range surface to air missile which they claim had technology to combat radar evading targets and systems to target missile navigation.

The U.S. responded in a humanitarian effort, rescued 13 Iranian fishermen held hostage by Somali pirates ironically with forces from the USS John C. Stennis. How do the Iranians respond? They announce another round of naval excercises which the US Navy will have to monitor closely as the Strait of Hormuz must remain open. Now the administration yesterday dismissed the upcoming trip of Iranian President Ahmadinejad to South America where he is visiting Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador. These are all nations with leaders who are virulently anti-American. Chavez, Ortega, Castro are all communists and Correa, the President of Ecuador who is an avowed socialist. There must come a time and soon where the Iranians can no longer be dismissed but must be confronted for the force of evil in the world that they are. We cannot allow Iran to become involved in this hemisphere or be allowed to aquire nuclear weapons. We ignore the implications of these relationships with no thought of the consequences to our national security when we have an unsecured border where Hamas and Hezbollah literature were found that Iran can exploit in conjunction with these South American enemies.
